I admit, I got a bit bogged down last week, and apparently the week before as well. Sorry about leaving this dormant for two weeks straight, though. There just wasn't much to report, so...I didn't report it. ๐
So What DID I Do?
Well, as far as working on this business I'm setting up, I did a little work on the course, but mostly wallered around in the first week during my absence, feeling a little burnt out.
Then last week I signed up for one of Sage Grayson's Get-It-Done-Weeks (GIDW), and got a fire lit under me. This particular GIDW was about setting up a low-priced membership, which is something I've been planning to do for a while now, so I'm really glad I did it!
Since the "little" course I had planned on creating has sort of metastasized into a much larger project (and led to that mini-burnout), I haven't finished it yet, so I haven't had to set up a sales page for it.
I also discovered that, since I'm creating it as an online "anytime" course, rather than a live training, I'm going to have to set up a sales tax number before I can offer it, because my state requires me to collect sales tax on those types of courses.
Can you believe that I've managed to avoid having to collect sales tax for years, just by only selling through Etsy and Amazon? They handle all that stuff for you, and I'd forgotten how nice it was. ๐
What I DID set up a sales page for was the low-priced membership. It's a body-doubling/coworking Discord I've been running for a while now, and am finally expanding beyond a tiny group of friends.
Which, in case you're curious, the sales page for my Cozy Coworking Crew Discord can be found right here. It's only $7 per month, and it's a drop-in affair, so you don't have to adhere to strict pomodoros, or actually speak in voice, or any of that. Though if that's your jam, you can use it that way too! We even have a person who is most motivated by reporting what they did the day before, so it's very "do-whatever-works-best-for-your-brain."
Not gonna lie, I totally cheated. ๐
Okay, technically it's not cheating, but I did use a template to get me at least halfway there before I even started.
Once I had some words I sorta liked (I REALLY had to lean into the "done is better than perfect" mantra on this one. I'll probably be refining the language on this sales page for months), I grabbed a template and adjusted it to use my own brand colors and imagery, and plopped in the words. A bit of rearranging here and there, and voila! A sales page.
Since this all uses the same editor functions as the rest of Systeme.io, it was a pretty easy process, though easy in this case does NOT mean fast. To be fair, that was mostly due to my perfectionistic tendencies, but that's a topic for a different therapy session. ๐
Of course, there's more to selling something than just a sales page. A LOT more, actually. But during the GIDW, we mostly focused on getting the offer designed and ready to roll. The promotion comes later.
What else did I have to do? Well, I had to design a thank-you page, for starters. Fortunately, the sales page template had me covered there, as well. I just had to replace the colors, words, and a couple images, and the thank-you page was done too.
And of course, you can't sign someone up for a membership without having an email sequence to nurture them! Fortunately, Sage's GIDW had me create that even before I made the sales page, so I had that ready to roll, and connecting it in Systeme is as simple as setting up a single automation rule.
The one thing I wasn't yet used to about setting things up in Systeme is how it handles mobile vs. desktop views. You can have one thing displaying on your desktop (which is where I do all my design work), and something COMPLETELY different displaying on mobile.
Fortunately, most of the text and buttons and whatnot were the same for both mobile and desktop. but a couple of the images were completely different, with different (read: from the original template) text over them when I viewed the site on mobile. WHOOPS!
To check for this, just click this button, which appears at the top right of the editing interface in Systeme:

Luckily I caught these before anyone ever came through my sales page (and thank-you page), because I always double-check my own work. But I wanted to point it out to you because this is different from what I'm used to when using WordPress.
Hope this helps save y'all some embarrassment!
