As I type this, I’m already staring at the first page of my “You are a Badass” page-per-day calendar that my wonderful boyfriend got me for Christmas, as it has a very applicable message: “Nobody who ever accomplished anything big or new or worth raising a celebratory fist in the air did it from their comfort zone.
Lemme tell y’all, today I’m going to be heading well outside my comfort zone. What am I doing? Setting up Systeme.io subaccounts for all my domains, and getting at least two of them connected to the domains I own that are not currently hosted elsewhere: DopamineEqualsDone.com and EasyEqualsDone.com.
Then I can finally start putting some of this documentation out into the world! Maybe then I'll be a badass. ☺️
I set up the abovementioned domains, as well as my Paperies.com domain, as subaccounts, using the info available in this video. Then I made a false start on connecting the DopamineEqualsDone subaccount and EasyEqualsDone subaccount (hereinafter referred to as DED & EED XD) to their respective domains, and wound up on my first sidequest.
Why I created Systeme.io Subaccounts for Multiple Domains
But WHY am I creating Systeme subaccounts at all? Well, the first and biggest reason is...money. Specifically, the lack thereof. You see, when you have multiple businesses (which are what I'm building right now), Systeme is kind of the be-all, end-all, because they permit UNLIMITED subaccounts with...get this...each of them having the same limits as your primary account.
Now, this might not sound like a big deal, but for a multipassionate entrepreneur like myself, it's a freaking gold mine. Instead of having to purchase a separate Systeme account for every one of my businesses, I can just set each one up as a subaccount, and voila! I get all the same goodies for each subaccount that I get for the main account...all included in the same price.
The best part? Their freemium model. Meaning you can start all of this for FREE, and upgrade your account (and all the subaccounts) once you're starting to make the big bucks. Okay, enough about my excitement at finding Systeme. Back to your regularly scheduled log of what I'm doing today...
Sidequest 1, which does need to be done, but I hadn't necessarily planned on doing it today, is setting up catchalls for the emails of each domain. Catchalls are what allow emails sent to misspelled or nonexistent email boxes to be caught and sent to an email that does exist, so that they aren't lost to the black hole of the interwebs.
I set up email forwarders for the two domains that don't currently have any other web presence (the two that are "going native" on Systeme) as shown in this article.
Then I set up a catchall for my google workspace (which I'm using for email on my MichelleLiggitt.com domain), using the instructions I found here.
Finally, I tried to set up a catchall for Paperies.com, which is still using the email from my Hostgator Baby Plan, as described in this help article. However, my account didn’t look like what was shown in that help topic, no matter how many times I refreshed the page, or tried loading it in different browsers, so I finally broke down and contacted Hostgator support about it.
As always, they helped me understand what was happening so that I could fix the problem - turns out, they've stopped allowing regular catchalls because of spam issues, so I just had to set up a catchall forwarder instead.
I gotta admit, in over 15 years, I have never had a bad experience with Hostgator support. If you ever need webhosting, or are unsatisfied with where your domain is currently hosted, please give them a shot!
Since I was spending a lot of time waiting for HostGator tech support (I said they were good...I never said they were fast 😝), I made the mistake of signing up for their affiliate company, Impact.com, so that I could add an affiliate link to my HostGator recommendation above.
That took farrrr longer than the 4 minutes they promised, and I got turned down anyway. Not really surprised, given the lack of content and prettiness on this domain right now, so I'll have to circle back and try again once this place is looking more respectable.
Now, to get the DED Systeme site showing up on my DopamineEqualsDone.com domain so that I can start publishing all this documentation of what I’ve been doing, and then do the same for EED. I'm using the tutorial here. The list of tasks never ends, but fortunately I am feeling peaceful today, so I believe I can do this…might take some patience though, since I have to wait for the DNS records to propagate.
Once those propagate, I can also set up Systeme to use my email for marketing using this tutorial. (Spoiler: They eventually propagated, and I eventually set them up.)
I apparently succeeded in getting my blog set up, and documenting everything I've done today. Woot! I look forward to sharing more with you as I go along. 💜
